What Is the Best Dog Food for Shih Tzu Puppies?

I am currently using ALPO 2in1 for puppies but I am having a hard time to look for it in Pet stores here. My vet suggested Eukanuba. While a Sales Clerk in a well-known Pet Store in Cubao suggested Orijen but it is too expensive. What should I use? I want the best for my puppy but not an expensive one.

Veterinarians are not reliable on your dog’s nutrition. Like you said, Orijen is pretty expensive, I feed it to my dogs. Have you tried Canidae? Its fairly priced and high quality. Don’t be fooled with those "big name" dog food brands like:

Purina
Pedigree
Alpo
Iams
Beneful
Gravy Train

Good luck!

I have a Shi tzu! Anyways, feed it pedigree, or blue Buffalo, but don’t keep switching up foods, it will get MAJOR diarrhea!

Eukanuba isn’t great, but it is a lot better then Alpo! I don’t care for Science Diet, and will never feed it to my giant breed dogs, but small & Toy breed dogs & pups do great on it. Science Diet & Eukanuba will cost a lot less then the Orijen, but the Orijen is a far BETTER food! Stay away from Pedigree, Iams, and Purina! Hope this helps good Luck!!

Alpo is a horrible food and you will not find it in pet stores only grocery stores. If you can buy your dogs food in a grocery store it’s a safe bet to say it’s one of the worst foods you can feed your dog. Vet’s get paid to endorse a food so some of them are not the most reliable when it comes to making food recommendations. Orijen is one of the top foods you can feed your pup. You should find a food that is grain free (does not contain any corn, wheat, by products, flax, soy, brewer’s rice, sorghum, animal fats, animal digests and meat meal, chemical preservatives. I feed Wellness Core dry food mixed with Wellness Stews. My dog loves it and both are highly rated foods full of protein.

Also, you will find that if you feed your dog a higher quality food they will eat less of it so you don’t have to by food as often. The better the food quality, the healthier the dog.

This website really opened my eyes:http://www.thedogbowl.com/PPF/category_ID/37/dogbowl.asp
I feed my dog Taste of the Wild, it’s grain free and it’s really good for their coat. My dog is seriously shining and so soft! Canidae is really good too.
