A question about grooming?

My room-mate has a shih tzu that she grooms herself. She is cut very short. After her haircut for about a week, she walks funny with her back end going kinda sideways and she looks at her tail like it’s going to jump of her back end.She also has many tiny scabs on her back(no fleas)What is it from…could it be because she trims her so short??No wise-asses please & Thank-you
Nope….No blood at all.
She has always been trimmed this short.

It’s called a "puppy cut" and its the way some owners like to keep their dogs hair. It’s not unsafe to have the hair this short. The scabs may be a skin condition completely unrelated to the grooming. Whatever it is, it sounds like she should be going into the vet!

Does the dog bleed when she’s trimmed?

It sounds like there’s a problem there already, and the trimming just means you can see it. Ask the vet about it.

She is probably cutting her hair too short, and the stubble is itching her rectum. The cuts or scabs most likely are Shaver burns, as shavers get very hot, quickly. A shih tzu is not supposed to have its hair cut off. Just groom it daily. Dogs with long hair are not meant to be shaved, to save on grooming work. The longer coat prevents sunburn on the dog. If you want a shorter-haired dog, you shouldn’t get a long-haired breed.

It sounds like she gives the dog razor rash from cutting her too short. This can get infected and cause all sorts of problems, including alopecia and severe sunburn. She needs to stop grooming herself if she cuts this short or she needs to use a 1/2inch razor guide so it won’t cut too short. It sounds like the dog is in a lot of pain after the grooming. She should take it to the vet if there are signs of infection. You might even have an SPCA where you live that could warn her about animal abuse if she doesn’t do something to stop this. This could be considered unnecessary torture and neglect of care if she is made aware of the problem and does not stop causing it.

Probably cutting too short should get it done by somebody who knows for sure how short to cut it. Hope this helps.
