is my dog a shih tzu or a chinese imperial?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

my dog is almost 8 years old and i got her from a shih tzu breeder when she was around 5. every other shih tzu i have seen has been about twice her size. i was told there was no such thing as a mini shih tzu, but i’m not sure. i have read that chinese imperials have been mistaken as mini shih tzus and are just now getting recognized. i am just curious of to whether she is THE smallest shih tzu i’ve ever seen or if she is actually something else….

There is no such thing as a Chinese OR Imperial Shih Tzu. If you didn’t get registration papers from your breeder, it may not even be a purebred dog. If you did get registration papers with your dog, keep in mind that purebred does not always mean well bred.

Getting a omperial shih-tzu?

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

My friend has three 14 week old imperial shih-tzus and has offered to give me one for free. I asked if they have had their shots yet and I was informed that they have not been to a veterinarian ever in their life. Should I be concerned by this or will it be simple to just take them to my veterinarian and get them their shots? Also, will shots be that expensive for a 8 pound shih-tzu. I’m not worried about the cost I’m just curious. Thanks!
imperial* gotta love auto correct!
It’s 4 pounds at the moment, they’re expecting it to get up to 8 pounds. Normally they sell their litters, take them to the vet, etc… but this was a unexpected litter and happened with another one of there shih tzu’s and not the one they normally breed with so they were just giving these away.
Normally she would just breed regular shih tzu’s but as I said it was unexpected with one of there other dogs that they were not using for breeding.

You should be concerned because anyone selling "Imperial Shih Tzus" is a backyard breeder. Period. There is ONE kind of Shih Tzu. If you are unsure what that is then look at the AKC website or the national breed club. That coupled with the fact that the pups have never been to the vets? I’d run away from this breeder for sure.

ADD: Rabies is given at 12 weeks, not six months…

Is having a Chinese Imperial Dog a Bad Idea?

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Is a chinese imperial dog(imperial shih tzu) smart. my dad say they arent but when i look on the internet they said they are smart.. And what is the life span of it? Are they good for children? Should they always be walked? Are they playful, energetic? Are they good guard dogs?

———sorry for all the questions :"|

Oscar, my 11 month old Shih Tzu Maltese mix, is very intelligent. And, he plays well with adults and children alike. I read in many training books and sites to keep dogs tired with walking and play to keep them well behaved. I walk him in the morning and evening - each time about 30 - 45 minutes long. He comes home as is the most well behaved dog. He is friendly, obedient and still does test us as any 11 month old puppy will. As long as I remember that he is under a year old and very well behaved for that and will settle even more, I am fine and doing justice to him. They are not guard dogs unless you think barking up a storm is a guard dog :-) Oscar barks up a storm when someone rings the bell. Once they are in, he will just welcome them home :) I can’t tell you how much I like having him. I almost got another dog and went for Oscar as the store did not have a dog in the color I wanted. I then looked over and saw Oscar. I have enjoyed every day with him - even when he was peeing all over the house. And, he is fully potty trained now but I keep him on hard wood floors when I leave the house - just to be on the safe side.

What is the difference between a Chinese Imperial shih tzu and a normal one?

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

I have been browsing looking for puppies and often it comes up that there are Chinese Imperial ones and just Imperial ones. I just wanted to know the difference.

the "Imperial" shih tzu are just under sized shih tzus. Some breeders say they are a new breed but they are basically like the runt of a litter.

What is a good website to find imperial shih-tzu clothes? [Tiny Dog Clothes]?

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Where can I find cute clothes for small dogs?
I’m getting an imperial shih-tzu (male) and I want to get him clothing.
I don’t care if you think it’s weird.
He’s still a baby and it’s winter. I don’t want him to get sick.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN "IMPERIAL" SHIH TZU. THERE IS ONLY ONE, A SHIH TZU.

HE DOES NOT NEED CLOTHING. A SHIH TZU HAS FLUFFY FUR FOR A REASON.

IT IS A DOG, NOT AN A DOLL YOU CAN DRESS UP.

BE A MORE RESPONSIBLE OWNER. IT IS A DOG, NOT AN ACCESSORY.

ADD: I agree with the person below :) and above too. SAVE THAT MONEY FOR VET BILLS, MEDICATIONS, VACCINATIONS, AND ALL YOUR PUPPY’S *NEEDS*.

YOU *DON’T* DESERVE A DOG.
