Haircuts For Shih Tzu

A question about grooming?

Monday, August 8th, 2011

My room-mate has a shih tzu that she grooms herself. She is cut very short. After her haircut for about a week, she walks funny with her back end going kinda sideways and she looks at her tail like it’s going to jump of her back end.She also has many tiny scabs on her back(no fleas)What is it from…could it be because she trims her so short??No wise-asses please & Thank-you
Nope….No blood at all.
She has always been trimmed this short.

It’s called a "puppy cut" and its the way some owners like to keep their dogs hair. It’s not unsafe to have the hair this short. The scabs may be a skin condition completely unrelated to the grooming. Whatever it is, it sounds like she should be going into the vet!

Your Ugliest Dog Breeds?

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

In your own PERSONAL TASTE which dog breeds are the ugliest?

Pictures welcome

My pics..

SHIH TZU

Sure they make cute puppies, but then they grow up, they have under bites, they get bad haircuts, they have googly eyes!

Brussels Griffon

I’ll cut some slack for the long wirehair veriety, but the smooth coated ones are sure ugly

Puggle

Not exactly a breed but they’re so common these days I might as well add this one in. I just don’t see the appeal..

I don’t think any breed is ugly, I don’t like some breeds, and some individuals of breeds are ugly. But I can’t think of any properly bred dogs that are ugly. The closest I would say to an ugly dog is a Petit Brabancon, (aka the smooth coated Brussels Griffon). I’ve seen one in person and it was so sweet and affectionate and silly, but, I don’t think it’s the most aesthetically pleasing of dogs.

I just thought of some other ones. All the doodle breeds and poo breeds, when their shaved. Even Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu are ugly shaved, long haired, their beautiful, shaved their ugly. And Boxers, I do not like boxers, I don’t like their appearance or their temperament, my sister has a boxer.

What breed mix do you think?

Friday, July 1st, 2011

We recently adopted a little mix from a rescue we are very fond of. Two years before, we also adopted a dog from there. The one we recently rescued is named Winnie, and she is about eight/nine months or so we guessed. We believe, as did the rescue, that she is part Shih Tzu and Yorkie. how ever, i think there is a little bit more. Winnie is really nonchalant and "airy" she also is not athletic! lol! Also, the two year old is named Ashlie and we are pretty sure that she is a Chihuahua/Corgi/jack russell mix. Ashlie is SUPER athletic, and SUPER quiet!

What is your opinion? pictures included.

with all of these pictures (they were from my desktop folder) just copy the link and paste it into a new tab. lol probably the easiest.

Ashlie:

well thanks for all your time!! i really appreciate it, and i know this was a lot of photos….i’m a little bit photo crazy :p

NOTE: please, no SMART remarks. i already HAVE an opinion, this is just me wondering what YOURS is…of my dog’s breeds!! not of MY knowledge! haha well not trying to be offensive but some people on yahoo answers are a bit cheeky if you get my meaning!

thanks again! :)
ah! oh no im sooo sorry!!! gotta try again!!!

The photos must be posted online somewhere, and then linked from there…the links you use can’t be accessed by anyone, and aren’t complete…sorry…

How can I stop my Shih Tzu from feeling anxious after his haircut?

Friday, May 27th, 2011

He is 17 months old and everytime he gets his haircut he spends approx. 1 week feeling sorry for himself, he just sits on his cushion on the sofa and won’t play. Any suggestions or will he grow out of it?

i would tell YOU to get over it … for god’s sake, it is a dog … they have no comprehension how they look … he is merely feeding off your energy, your family probably tried to "make him feel better" at the first sight of what you perceived to be anxiety … what do you do, you ignore the dog and get on with your day … if he wants to lay there for a week, let him, but if you get on with life he is not going to lay there trying to soak attention from you …

How to groom your Shih Tzu dog in a short shaved body & fluffy legs hairstyle

Friday, April 1st, 2011

I have had a few requests on describing how I do the haircut that I often use with my tiny Shih Tzus. It is sometimes referred to as the lamb cut or Cocker style haircut with a teddy bear face, fluffy legs, & long tail. The top knot can be left long or trimmed short for the look your wanting with your dog. I am by no means a professional groomer & everything that I am showing in this video are what I have learned with trial & error. Thanks for watching Fairy Tail Shih Tzu video & happy grooming! :)

took my dog to the groomers?

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I just took my 7 month old Shih Tzu to the groomers, and I was super nervous, but i know i shouldn’t be, because my dog is WAY TOO friendly with strangers. But anyways, i asked to see the groomer myself, and spoke to her. She said the dog would be staying in kennels, i dropped her off at 9 :15 and she said she’d be done by 3 or earlier, because she had many other dogs., I asked that the dog be showered, and asked for a certain haircut and nails and ears. is it normal to take that long? and do you think my baby thinks I abandoned her ?! its her first time in a clinic THAT long

yes it is perfectly normal, especially if she had allot of other dogs to do.After the dog gets its bath it has to be blow dried before it can be cut.Usually, they bath the dog and cut the nails, then the dog is placed into a special kennel that has a type of blow drier attached,so that way while they bathe another dog your dog is getting dry without getting cold. Then they put the other dog into a kennel and proceed to groom yours, depending on the type of cut your dog is getting, the cut itself can take up to an hour or more, especially if its allot of scissor work and not just clippers. No reason to be nervous, I am sure if you call the groomers in an hour or two they will happily give you a report on how your baby is doing. :0)

What is wrong with my dog?

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

So we left at the pet shop to be groomed and vaccinated. They made him bald. When we came back for him and brought him home, he acted very strangely. He bit my sister and growled at her. He never cted this way before. I honestly think he got mad because of his new haircut. He e’s a shih tzu but now looks like a chihuahua. I need a REAL explanation. Help?

No, he is not mad about his new haircut..lol.
Dogs don`t have any idea about how they look.
Most likely he has been frightened or hurt by the vaccination or clippers or been roughly handled at the pet shop.
I would give him a bit of time to recover and get back to his normal self.
Although he may never forget the experience and may be reluctant to be handled by strangers again. Make a point of touching him gently all over every day so he realises nothing bad is going to happen when he is handled by his family.
Hope this is a bit of help at least.

When Shih Tzus don’t get groomed

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Unfortunately this is not uncommon to see in salons. People do not realize the upkeep required when they purchase a dog — most dog purchases are done “on the spot” — by people who have either never heard of a breed or have never researched the breed in the past.

Also, even to the extent of this neglect, the owners of this dog can not be prosecuted because by bringing the dog to a groomer, they are getting help for the dog. This is besides the fact that on this particular occasion, this dog is having his first full body hair cut at 1 1/2 years old.

Please do your research and regularly groom your pets.
