  • What do I Need to Create a Living Space for My Puppy?

Now that you have the puppy home, you will need to acclimatize it to the home and all its members, while at the same time make it feel at home. The easiest way to do that is to create a living space for your new Shih Tzu puppy with a corner for itself. The best choice for this would be a comfortable, lined with crate soft washable pillows where it would initially make its home.

The ‘living space’ that you have created for this puppy should not be restricted unless you are housetraining it. The Shih Tzu puppy should be encouraged to smell the house and ‘meet’ every member of the family. Allow other members to carry it and pet it profusely. The Shih Tzu puppy thrives on attention and petting. At the same time, do not allow children lesser than seven years old to handle it because the Shih Tzu puppy gets very upset when mishandled. It should be always treated with lots love as well as respect and dignity.

Acclimatization Is an Important Aspect of Creating Living Space for Your Puppy

In case you have other pets, especially other dogs in the house, you should take extra care to acclimatize the newcomer without scaring them out of their wits. Remember, the Shih Tzu puppy has just been removed from its familiar surroundings into a completely new environment which must be quite an overwhelming experience. Be extra patient and loving towards it even if it takes much longer than expected to housetrain.

The Shih Tzu puppy will not bother much about the house itself, if it gets sufficient love and affection from you as its owner. The most comfortable living place you van create for him would be your lap! It will be great to offer it as often as you can since this is the way you will bond with the new puppy. The Shih Tzu puppy is not an outdoor dog, however you should keep in mind that it loves playing outside and enjoys a good romping session. Train it to fetch ball, stick and other similar things and you will have an extremely happy puppy on your hands.

The puppy should have and should know it has its own special place that you have created for him. The place (crate) should preferably be put in the bedroom or any other place where you do not have too many people trampling around when the puppy rests. Allow the puppy to rest well, as many times as it needs to. Sleep is good for the growing puppy and it should get as much as it could.

As it grows, you will need to be more and more involved with its health, well being and grooming. For this purpose, you will need to have a number of Shih Tzu puppy supplies, which are specifically meant to keep your puppy happy and satisfied with its new home and friends.
